The Training Process

BSAC branches conduct diver training over several weekly training sessions. Training will take place in some or all of the following formats:
: Sheltered Water (Bath Road Pool)
: Classroom (Theory)
: Open Water (Stoney Cove and/or coastal location)

The training is conducted by qualified instructors.

Luton BSAC has many items of diving equipment which, where appropriate, is for use by trainee divers who are club members.

It is club policy to encourage new divers to buy their own diving equipment as they near completion of sheltered water training and are planning to commence the Open Water training and dives to qualify as an Ocean Diver.

A small charge is made to club members who require the use of club equipment at Stoney Cove.

Skill Development Courses (SDC's)

Skill Development Courses (SDC's) normally cover more advanced Diving subjects encountered from Dive Leader training upwards. However, some SDCs can be taken at Ocean and Sports Diver grade.

SDC's are arranged within the BSAC Eastern Region.

Information on SDC's can be found on the BSAC HQ website www.BSAC-Eastern.org.uk or in Dive Magazine.

If you intend to enroll on a SDC, the club recommends that you make the Training Officer aware.

There maybe others within the branch who would like to attend the SDC.

In addition, the following SDC's can be run within the club

:Practical Rescue Management
:Oxygen Administration
:Search and Recovery
:Life Saver
:Advanced Lifesaver
:Compressor Operation

Luton BSAC welcomes membership inquiries from divers who have qualifications from agencies other than BSAC, e.g. PADI, SAA, DAN, CMAS
Subject to assessing current diver qualifications and experience, a cross-over can be made to the equivalent BSAC diver grade. Contact the club training officer for further details.
